Pitambara: Maa Baglamukhi among the ten Mahavidyas
The ten Mahavidyas are ten forms of the Devi, ten faces of one wisdom: Kali, Tara, Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi, Chhinnamasta, Dhumavati, Baglamukhi, Matangi and Kamala.
Baglamukhi is the Devi in yellow. She is called Pitambara, the one clad in yellow, and what is offered to her is yellow too: a yellow cloth, yellow flowers, haldi. Her japa is often counted on a mala of haldi beads.
The story of her appearance begins with a storm. In an age long past, a storm rose so great that all creation was about to be swept away. Vishnu went to the shore of Haridra Sarovar, the lake of turmeric, in Saurashtra, and sat in tapas to the Devi. From its yellow waters she rose as Baglamukhi, and the storm fell still.
Her name is often traced to valga, a bridle: the Devi who reins in. In tradition, her stillness is first the stillness of speech: the word held back before it is spoken, the word weighed before it is said. Those who keep her yantra keep it in that spirit, by the desk where words are written, or in the wallet of someone whose work is speaking.
Her best-known seat is the Pitambara Peeth at Datia, in Madhya Pradesh. Her yantra is drawn from its traditional form.
When and where families keep the Baglamukhi yantra
The days. Baglamukhi Jayanti, on Vaishakh Shukla Ashtami, and the Gupt Navratris of Magha and Ashadha, kept for the ten Mahavidyas.
The place. On a yellow cloth in the puja ghar; on the desk where you write; or in your wallet.
The practice. At the third step, offer a yellow marigold; the pinch of haldi in the second is already hers.

- Cleanse it with a soft cloth dipped in water and a pinch of haldi.
- Light a diya and offer a flower, a marigold or a rose, with a few grains of rice.
- Chant its bija mantra 108 times, one mala, the card in your right hand. The mantra is printed on the activation card.
- Set your sankalpa, your intention in one sentence, with the card held to your forehead.

प्रश्नQuestions
Questions about the Baglamukhi Yantra Card
Who is Maa Baglamukhi?
One of the ten Mahavidyas, the forms of the Devi in the tantric tradition. She is Pitambara, the Devi in yellow, and in tradition the Devi of stilled speech.
Is her yantra only for tantric sadhana?
Her full sadhana is traditionally learned from a guru. This card asks only for the seven steps of devotion: about thirty minutes, and no pandit.
Why yellow?
She is Pitambara, the one clad in yellow. Families offer her a yellow cloth, yellow flowers and haldi, and many count her japa on a haldi mala.
Will it help in a dispute or a court case?
No. We don't promise any result, in a dispute or anywhere else. In tradition, Maa Baglamukhi is the Devi of stilled speech, and her yantra is kept for restraint in one's own words. For a legal matter, please speak with a qualified professional.
When should I begin it?
Any morning you can give it thirty unhurried minutes, ideally at sunrise. Baglamukhi Jayanti and the Gupt Navratris are the traditional days.
