Maa Durga in the Durga Saptashati
The Durga Saptashati, the seven hundred verses of the Devi Mahatmya in the Markandeya Purana, tells how she appeared. The asura Mahishasura had driven the devas out of svarga, and no deva could stand before him. The devas went to Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. As they told what had happened, anger blazed out of them as light, and the light of every deva gathered into one form: the Devi.
Each deva gave her something of his own. Shiva gave a trident, Vishnu a discus, Indra the vajra, Agni a spear, and Himavat, king of the mountains, a lion to ride.
She went out to meet Mahishasura. He came at her in one form after another: a buffalo, a lion, a man with a sword, an elephant, and the buffalo again. In the end she vanquished him, and the devas sang her praise.
Her name, in tradition, means the one who is hard to reach. Through Navratri, many homes recite the Saptashati, whole or a chapter a day.
Her yantra is drawn from its traditional form, and families keep it for the strength of the Devi, through Navratri and through the days between.
When and where families keep the Durga yantra
The days. The nine nights of Navratri, from ghatasthapana to Vijayadashami, in autumn's Sharad Navratri and in Chaitra Navratri in spring. In many homes Ashtami, the eighth day, is especially hers. In Bengal, Durga Puja.
The place. In the puja ghar beside the ghat through Navratri; in your wallet or purse the rest of the year, or in the northeast (Ishan) corner of your home.
The practice. The Saptashati through Navratri, or her aarti in the evening. Read the Durga aarti

You add these after payment, in the app or on the web, with a live preview. Once you press "Make my card", the details are final.
Begin it at home, in about thirty minutes
You do not need a pandit. Ideally at sunrise, and if you can, on the first morning of Navratri or on Ashtami:
- Unwrap it with intention, in a clean space: your puja ghar, or a desk facing east.
- Cleanse it with a soft cloth dipped in water and a pinch of haldi.
- Light a diya and offer a flower, a marigold or a rose, with a few grains of rice.
- Chant its bija mantra 108 times, one mala, the card in your right hand. The mantra is printed on the activation card.
- Set your sankalpa, your intention in one sentence, with the card held to your forehead.
- Place it where it lives: your wallet, your purse or your puja ghar. Not the bathroom or the bedroom floor.
- Return to it each morning for one breath. There is nothing to renew; the practice is your attention.

प्रश्नQuestions
Questions about the Durga Yantra Card
Durga or Navdurga: which card?
The Durga card holds Maa Durga in one form; the Navdurga card holds her nine forms, one for each night of Navratri. Choose Navdurga if you keep each night's form, and Durga for the Devi in one form, all year.
Should I begin it during Navratri?
It is the traditional time: on the first day, at ghatasthapana, or on Ashtami. Any morning you can give it thirty unhurried minutes is right too.
Do I need to recite the whole Saptashati?
No. The card asks only for the seven steps: about thirty minutes, and no pandit. If you keep the Saptashati, that is your own devotion beside it.
Can I keep it beside the Devi's murti?
Yes: beside her murti in the puja ghar, or by the ghat through Navratri. Not on the floor or in the bathroom.
