About this text
This is the aarti North Indian homes and temples sing to the goddess: through the nine nights of Navratri, at a mata ki chauki or a devi jagran, and on Fridays. It describes her as Durga rides and fights: the lion, the sword and khappar, then the asuras she defeats, Shumbha and Nishumbha, Mahishasura, Chanda and Munda, Raktabija, and Madhu and Kaitabha.
Then it names her as Brahmani, Rudrani, Kamala and the mother of the world. The refrain returns after each stanza. Maharashtra commonly sings a Marathi aarti to her, Durge Durghat Bhari.

Maang sindoor viraajat
