About this text
Samarth Ramdas, the 17th-century Marathi saint, wrote this aarti, and tradition places it at the Ganapati temple of Morgaon. His name is in the third stanza: "das Ramacha", the servant of Rama, waits at the door.
It is the aarti most Marathi homes sing to Ganesha, morning and evening through the ten days of Ganeshotsav and at the end of a daily puja. The family stands before the murti, the lamp is waved, and the refrain returns after each stanza. North India commonly sings another aarti to Ganesha, Jai Ganesh Deva.
