About this text

North Indian homes recite this chalisa through the nine nights of Navratri, on Fridays and at a devi jagran. It names the goddess in her many forms: Annapurna, Saraswati, Lakshmi and Kalika, and the ten Mahavidyas including Matangi, Dhumavati and Bagala.

It recalls Hinglaj and Nagarkot among her seats, and the story of the asuras she defeats. Its closing part turns to a personal prayer, and the last line carries the name Devidas.
