Your free kundali: the birth chart with your ascendant, Moon sign and nakshatra

A kundali is the chart of the sky at your birth. Add your birth details once, and the web app makes your free kundali, with your ascendant, Moon sign and nakshatra. The full written report is there if you want more.

What it is

The kundali, also called the janam kundali or birth chart, is a map of the sky as it stood at the moment and place of a birth. It is drawn in twelve houses, counted from the lagna, the ascendant: the sign rising on the eastern horizon at that moment. In those houses sit the nine grahas, the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu, each in a sign and a house. A pandit reads the chart from the lagna outward, the Moon and its nakshatra beside it.

Families have a kundali made at a birth, look at it before a marriage, and bring it out before choosing a day for a ceremony. Because the lagna changes about every two hours, the time of birth matters for the chart more than for anything else: the same day with a different hour can give a different lagna.

What you enter

Your free kundali comes from the birth details in your profile: your Date of birth, your time of birth and your Place of birth. If any is missing, the app asks for it once, "A kundali is cast from where you were born," and your free chart is ready as soon as it is saved.

The full report asks for the same details in its own form, with How well do you know the time of birth? and Language, so you can order one for someone else too, for a parent or a child.

What you get

The free kundali is your birth chart with your ascendant, your Moon sign and your nakshatra. It is free with an account, and it stays in "Your kundali" for whenever you want it.

If you want more, the full kundali report is paid: prepared from your birth details and written in your language, at ₹999, with a PDF to download and keep. You never need the report to see your chart.

How it is worked out

The app finds the sidereal positions of the grahas and the rising sign for the moment and place of birth, and places them in the twelve houses counted from the lagna. Rahu and Ketu, the Moon's nodes, are placed opposite each other, as the tradition draws them.

Every answer comes from our own panchang engine, worked out for the city you choose and read on the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa, the one the Calendar Reform Committee of India adopted. The same engine prints the dates and times on our calendar and panchang pages, so the tool and the calendar never disagree with each other. How we compute explains the method, and why a printed almanac from your town may differ from it by a minute or two.

Before you begin

The tool is free with a Bhagya Card account. If you are not signed in, the button above takes you to sign in first, with your mobile number or your email, and then straight to the tool.

Have the time of birth from the hospital or family record before you begin. If you know it only roughly, say so when the report's form asks how well you know it.

Questions

Is the kundali really free?

Yes. The birth chart with your ascendant, Moon sign and nakshatra is free with an account. Only the full written report is paid.

Can I make a kundali for someone else?

The full report can be ordered for someone else from their birth details. A parent or guardian adds a child's birth details.

What if I do not know my time of birth?

The chart still shows your Moon sign and nakshatra, which change slowly, but the lagna may not be right. The report's form asks how well you know the time, so it can say so.

A short letter at each new moon and full moon.

A mantra, a practice, or a story from the yantras, about once a fortnight. Leave with one click.
