Shraddha: what is offered with faith
In many homes there is a photograph on the wall with a sandalwood garland, and one day each year when the kitchen cooks what that person loved. That day is the shraddha. The word comes from shraddhā, faith: in tradition, what is offered with faith is a shraddha.
On the tithi of a parent's passing, the family offers tarpan, water with black sesame, and a portion of the meal is set aside for the ancestors before anyone eats. Once a year the whole family remembers together. In the dark fortnight just before Navratri, Pitru Paksha, each ancestor is remembered on their own tithi. Its last day, Sarvapitri Amavasya, is kept for every ancestor, including those whose tithi no one in the family remembers any more.
In tradition, the pitrs, the ancestors, are part of a householder's daily offerings, beside the devas, the rishis, all beings and the guest at the door.
This card is kept for that remembrance. Families set it in the puja ghar through Pitru Paksha and on shraddha days, and it can stay there all year. It does not take the place of the shraddha, the tarpan or the pandit who guides them. It keeps your elders close on the other days.
स्थानWhere it is kept
When and where families keep it
Families keep it in the puja ghar, facing east or north, and set it out with care through Pitru Paksha and on the tithi of each shraddha. It is wallet-sized, so a son or daughter who lives far from the house where the shraddha is done can carry it in a wallet or purse instead.
नामYour card
What your Pitru Dosha Nivaran Yantra Card carries
- The yantra of the Pitru Devatas, drawn from its traditional form.
- Your name, in your script. Printed exactly as you type it, in Devanagari or in English, never transliterated.
- Depending on the design, a date of birth, a gotra, a short message and a photo.
- A QR that opens the card's own page, and a serial number on the back that starts with BC-.
You add these after payment, in the app or on the web, with a live preview. Nothing is printed until you press "Make my card"; then the details are final.
विधिHow to begin
Begin it at home, in about thirty minutes
You do not need a pandit for these steps; the shraddha itself is done as your family has always done it. Ideally at sunrise:
- Unwrap it with intention, in a clean place, ideally your puja ghar. Pause for a breath first.
- Cleanse it with a soft cloth dipped in water and a pinch of haldi. It is symbolic: you prepare it for its place.
- Light a diya and offer a flower, a marigold or a rose, with a few grains of rice.
- Chant its bija mantra 108 times, one mala, with the card in your right hand. It is printed on the activation card.
- Set your sankalpa, your intention in one sentence, with the card held to your forehead: "To remember my father on his tithi every year."
- Place it where it lives: the puja ghar, facing east or north, or a wallet if you live away from home. Not the bathroom or the bedroom floor.
- Return to it each morning for one breath. There is nothing to renew. The practice is your attention.
Its bija mantra.
In the envelope
- The card, with your name as you typed it.
- The activation card, with its bija mantra and the seven steps.
- A gift-ready envelope, so it can be handed over as it arrives.
If it arrives damaged or wrongly printed, write to us within 7 days of delivery with the order number and a photo, and we will replace it at our cost.
उपहारA gift
Giving it to the one who keeps the tithis
In many families one person keeps the tithis: the mother who remembers every shraddha, the elder brother who does the tarpan. A card made in their name is a quiet way of saying that you remember too.
Pay now and add their name after payment, in the script they write it in. Add their mobile number too, and the card waits in their wallet in the Bhagya Card app. For a brother or sister abroad who cannot be home for Pitru Paksha, the printed card reaches them in 7–14 business days; customs duties abroad, if any, are paid by the buyer.
प्रश्नQuestions
Questions about the Pitru Dosha Nivaran Yantra Card
Why is it called Pitru Dosha Nivaran?
It is the name this yantra is known by in tradition, and we keep it as the catalogue has it. We do not promise any change in your kundali or your life. The card is offered with love, for remembering your ancestors.
Does it take the place of the shraddha or the tarpan?
No. The shraddha and the tarpan are done as your family has always done them, with your family's pandit where you need one. The card keeps the remembrance close on the other days of the year.
Can I keep it in the puja ghar with the deities?
Yes; that is where families keep it. If your family keeps the elders' photographs apart from the deities, keep the card with the photographs instead. Your family's custom comes first.
How do I know when the shraddha days fall?
They follow the tithi, not the date, so they move from year to year. The free shraddha-dates tool in the Bhagya Card app works them out for your city from the tithi of a passing, and Family occasions reminds you a few days before.
