About this text
This aarti is sung in North India after a reading of the Ramayana or the Sundarkand, at the evening puja, and at noon on Ram Navami, the hour of Rama's birth. It praises Rama both as the son of Dasharatha and Kausalya and as the one beyond all form, the refuge of the moving and unmoving world.
Raghuvar means the best of the line of Raghu. The refrain returns after each stanza. North India has other aartis and stutis to Rama too, among them Shri Ramachandra Kripalu by Tulsidas.

Tender to those who come for shelter, firm in his vow, wish-giving tree of devotees, foe of the asuras. Taking his name, the world is made pure: to him, friend of the vanaras, who takes away the sorrow of the humble.
Where readings differ
One word in stanza 3 is unsettled: copies read "avanh" or "avan" before "amit gati", and the word is obscure. The meaning here follows the context, and we welcome a correction.
